Big Brother 8: Introductions, Re-introductions Made

Most of the surprises awaiting Big Brother 8's houseguests were revealed to the public days if not weeks ago. We had been hearing that some sort of worst enemies connection was on tap -- actually, what I had read is that players would be paired up with bullies.

However, we found off right off the bat that Dick has been estranged from his daughter Daniele for the past two years.

We learned that Jessica and Carol were once friends but now enemies in their younger years in Kansas.

And, we learned that Dustin allegedly gave Joe a big, steaming case of gonorrhea. Allegedly.

Holy expect the unexpected, did this get fun quick.

But it's tough to figure out this early just who will be fodder and who will find fame. Who's a sage player? Who's the alliance builder? Who's the Will Kerby of the bunch, and who's Janelle -- gorgeous and brilliant?

One monkey wrench thrown into the mix by Big Brother is that Eric is what they're calling "America's Player." He's all ours.

We'll tell him who to vote for. Who to nominate. Who to make out with (theoretically, America could tell this guy to make out with another dude, I suppose).

He's our Big Brother b*****.

As for the worst enemies, based on what we witnessed in Thursday night's pre-taped episode, I think it's clear that Dustin and Joe will work against each other.

I'm not so sure that Jessica and Carol, who I think is by far the cutest of the girls (by a mile), won't be able to somehow work together ... and, I have a dad-blurned hunch that father Dick and daughter Danielle will bond to form a strong, strong alliance before this summer is over.

Sunday night will feature more introductions, and I think we'll have our first nominations. Tuesday night will probably include some wrangling and begging and positioning, and Thursday is the first live eviction. Frankly, I have no earthly idea who might be up for eviction right off the bat or who could be evicted.

We know that Dick, Jessica and Dustin -- who spent the first 40 minutes at the top of the Big Brother house -- are ineligible for nomination or eviction. My gut hunch tells me that while any of their "enemies" could be nominated, there's no way one of them gets the boot this early.

Not the first week.

My gut hunch also says Eric is as safe as can be given that he's America's Player and that he helped multi-business owner Kail win Head of Household.

Long-term, I could see Kail faring well given her experience in both life and business. However, is she really as hungry as she seems, given her success? Plus, she and Dick are by far the oldest of the bunch, which puts them at a demographic disadvantage in terms of building alliances.

And, she won HoH right off the bat, which is bound to peave some players, particularly whoever gets nominated but isn't evicted. She might be a potentially excellent player, but she's already, really, in a bad spot.

Long-term, I like the potential of one of these three guys -- Mike, Nick or Zach. Considering the house is chock-full of hot women, given that two of those women are tied to a "worst enemy," I say advantage men initially.

Yet all of this is vastly premature because if I had to put a dollar on this entire season right this instant based only on Thursday night's episode, I think we see bar-manager Dick and his daughter Daniele into late August, early September. It would be a terrific, kind of heartwarming storyline, potentially, and given this season's setup with regard to "worst enemies," I think it would be the type of expect-the-unexpected turnout that makes Big Brother compelling.

Next episode: Sunday at 7 p.m. CDT.
