Nothing says Americana like high school football. I was fortunate enough, I think, to have witnessed first-hand the best game in the state of Oklahoma last season, a 36-35 Davis win over Henryetta in the Class 2A playoffs, one year after having witnessed on TV the best game in Oklahoma the year before, a 48-44 Mustang win over Muskogee.
By the way, my high school alma maters are Muskogee and Henryetta, so in my eyes, the good guys were on the losing end of both. In fact, both games were really kind of gut-wrenching.
However, those were nothing compared to this -- the greatest high school football game ever played. 1994. Plano East vs. John Tyler at Texas Stadium in the Class 5A state playoffs. In fact, this is one of the two or three greatest games ever played in any sport, at any level, ever in the history of ever.
Anybody who has ever lived in Texas knows this game, this outcome and the cruel irony of it all. Plus, the announcers were so darned hokey. Enjoy.
