New Terror Threat Revives Old Maxim

Get ready for the alerts. They're coming.

According to a secret U.S. law enforcement report referenced in an ABC News story, "al Qaeda is planning a terror 'spectacular' this summer."

The story goes on to say that the chatter is similar to what was heard at this time in 2001, and it will likely lead to heightened alerts, heavier security, higher fuel prices -- just as the cost of gas had leveled off, too.

However, I'm apt to believe this one. There's no big election on the immediate horizon. There's no big issue right this second that would be greatly enhanced by this news. There's nothing related to any type of spin that would make me think this is the creation of somebody with a political motive.

It's very well possible that it's the real deal.

If it is, I know the single best way to protect Americans from another 9/11 tragedy, and it won't likely make my liberal friends happy. The best way to prevent terrorism in the United States right this second is to focus the vast majority of Homeland Security efforts on radical Islamic groups.

The idea that we need to treat everybody equally in a situation where everybody is clearly not equal is preposterous and puts lives at risk. The notion that an airport could get shut down over an old lady with medical cream or a pregnant woman's breast milk underscores just why it's believed that government can't really do anything right.

There's not a lick of common sense anywhere.

Sure, the Oklahoma City bombing was perpetrated by a New Yorker with ties to militias and such; however, that brand of terrorism doesn't concern me right now. Not that I'm scared stiff over the prospects of another 9/11, I still would like to see officials go about public protection in a smarter manner.

That'll require us to lose the political correctness.

It will require us to reconsider work visas for people from certain countries or certain backgrounds, at least for awhile.

It will require us to fight the battle against terrorism at its epicenter -- radical Islam.

Truly, I respect Islam as a religion. In fact, my personal belief is that Islam, Christianity, Judaism, etc. are merely extentions to the same deity under the concept that God presents himself to people in a way they can understand it.

However, the society that breeds radical Islam is such that American authorities have to treat its practitioners differently because of their track record.

There is an argument that, truly, all Islam is radical, and I don't buy that at all.

On the other hand, to deny that radical Islam is the central terrorist threat to Western culture at this point, amid this new speculation and possible danger, and to not act on it that way is to put a false ideal above practicality.

And, that IS scary.
