Forget Baseball. I'll Give You The Best New Show On TV.

Well, the Rockies did a little better tonight, but it unfortunately looks like this World Series will be another snoozer. Alas, it's been a good story for Colorado -- and I should note that I'm not a Colorado fan.

I'm a Texas Rangers fan, but you gotta have somebody to pull for in the series. And, I'm pretty much sick of seeing Boston win everything -- Patriots, Red Sox. Heck, Boston College might win the national championship.

Enough sports. I've discovered the absolute, without-a-doubt best new show of the season, and I haven't even watched it on TV. I've watched it all online.

It's CBS's "Big Bang Theory," a comedy about a pair of physicists who live next door to a hot blonde.

The show is from the creators of "Two and a Half Men," another terrific sitcom, highly underrated. However, "Big Bang ...," I'd submit, is already better. In fact, for me, this is the second best sitcom on television right now, next to "The Office."

However, it's also highly nerdy, so it's not for everybody. Here's the deal though. If you laugh at this clip, you'll like this show.

I completely agree. The Big Bang Theory is the best new sitcom in years. It is hilarious. Everyone should watch it Mondays on CBS at 8:30. If you don't watch it you do not know what your are missing. I haven't laughed this much during a sitcom in years.

Critics (even those I usually agree with) have been killing that show. I don't know why -- it's simple, but clever and funny every week so far.

I have found the Big Bang Theory pretty funny. I am not a big fan of sitcoms, but this one makes me laugh.

I have not found a single television critic who likes the show. In fact, they all seem to loathe it. At the same time, I realize that critiqueing
television is pretty much the lowest form of writing. It's where you go when the Weekly World News tells you you don't have any talent.

Here's a metacritic list of reviews:

Notice who loved the show. Tom Shales. I firmly believe that the folks who did not like this show "do not get" nerd culture and don't get most of the references in the show.

I would definitely agree with one of the critics who hated the show who said that this is a 1970s throwback. But they said it like it was a bad thing. The best sitcoms of our generation came from the 1970s. This show is "Odd Couple" (1960s) meets "Bosom Buddies" meets "Three's Company," etc.

The other humorous thing is that all the critics based their review on the pilot. Two points there: a) I haven't watched the pilot because it isn't available any more on cbs.com, but every episode I've seen makes me laugh out loud. b) Most shows nowadays improve after the pilot, and the guy who created this show apparently has this reputation.

I'll refer back to "The Office," which was spat upon by critics who said it paled in comparison to its British counterpart -- the very same people who acknowledge, rightfully so, that it blows away the British version.

Thankfully, CBS gave this one a full-season pickup ...
