Where Is "Thunder Island" Singer Jay Ferguson These Days?

Well, one such obscure tune came from a guy who had headed up the band Spirit, Jay Ferguson. His hit "Thunder Island" was the No. 51 tune of 1978.
Reason it came to mind tonight is because Premiere Radio Networks has been shopping what they call AT40 Classic with Casey Kasem to radio stations nationwide. The station gets a 1970s American Top 40 show in-full, and those of us who love music get a retro history lesson.
But Ferguson's 1978 story was told, and I recall just what a catchy pop song "Thunder Island" was. However, did you know he's much more influential today than he ever was in the 1970s?
Why? He wrote the theme to The Office. You learned something today.
Now, watch his 1978 hit, Thunder Island. See, it's stunning. Old people can still be cool.
