I agree with almost everything you said. My husband and I thought that Ellen was hysterical. I loved that bit were she said that the dancers behind the screen were naked.
My best friend was invited to an OKC Oscar watch party. It was full-out formal dress and the hostess rolled out a red carpet on her front sidewalk and had her husband and his friends act as paparazzi with cameras. Maybe I will copycat her next year and invite you;-)
Ricky Gervais's British "The Office" still holds my heart. However I was interested to find that he agrees with you. http://www.zap2it.com/tv/news/zap-rickygervaisoffice,0,3218405.story?coll=zap-tv-headlines "I think American TV is the best in the world. I knew 'The Office' wouldn't be ruined by these people," he says. "But I know American shows would be ruined by English people. We're not as good as you. ... American TV for me, as Randy Jackson would say, is da bomb." See, you two do have a lot in common!
